POLICE SHOOT DEAD TWO SUSPECTED ROBBERS AFTER MOMO ATTACK IN TEMA

Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead by police following a robbery attack on a mobile money vendor at Tema Community 5.

The incident, according to the Ghana Police Service, occurred on Monday, April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m. at Aba Fosuah Plaza.

A statement signed by Dede Dzakpasu indicated that one of the suspects, who was riding as a pillion passenger on a motorbike, approached the vendor under the guise of making a cash-out transaction. During the process, the suspect pulled a pistol and demanded the victim’s bag containing cash.

Police say the victim resisted, leading to a struggle involving both attackers. In the course of the confrontation, the armed suspect shot the vendor in the leg before the pair fled the scene on a motorbike with the stolen money.

A nearby police patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit responded swiftly after receiving a distress call and pursued the suspects. During the chase, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the officers near a junction close to Smart Hotel, prompting the police to return fire.

Both suspects sustained gunshot wounds, fell off their motorbike, and were later transported to the Police Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have been deposited at the mortuary for identification and autopsy.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of a 9mm pistol loaded with ammunition, three mobile phones, several SIM cards, a talisman, a motorbike key, and cash amounting to GH¢11,390. Police also recovered the victim’s Ghana Card.

The injured vendor is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

The Tema Regional Police Command has assured residents of its continued commitment to maintaining law and order, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
