Former NAFCO CEO Arrested at Airport While Attempting to Travel to UK
Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, has been arrested at the Accra International Airport while he was travelling to the United Kingdom.
The Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, disclosed the arrest in a social media post, stating that the fresh arrest was a result of Aludiba’s attempt to empty a frozen bank account linked to the ongoing criminal case against him.
He described it as a fresh twist in the trial of the former NAFCO CEO, who is facing charges of stealing and causing financial loss to the Republic.
According to Dr Srem-Sai, the trial High Court had earlier granted Aludiba leave to travel to the UK for a few days, but his attempt to use false means to empty his frozen account with Republic Bank on Thursday triggered the arrest.
“Law enforcement officers have, a while ago, arrested Mr Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba at the Accra International Airport,” the Deputy Attorney-General wrote.
He added that the Attorney-General would, on Monday, seek a review of the court order that permitted Aludiba to travel outside the country.
Aludiba is standing trial alongside his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, over allegations of financial impropriety running into millions of cedis during his time at the helm of NAFCO. Some of his bank accounts were frozen as part of measures to preserve assets pending the outcome of the case.
