The Mausoleum building

In 1972, the African Students Union sent a memorandum asking the Government of Guinea, under the then President Sekou Toure, to the mortal remains of the Ghanaian leader to Ghana only if the military leaders at that time denounced coup d’etat and re-erected the statue of Dr. Nkrumah which was destroyed during the 1966 coup.

Although the remains were later returned to Nkroful, his birthplace, until 1992 that the image of Dr. Nkrumah was restored on the Old Polo Grounds during which erstwhile Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC), decided to build the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum.

In 2022, the government of the republic of Ghana led by his Excellence Nana Addo Dankwah closed the site for redevelopment, and make it tourist center as witness today.

Now the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum which is inside the memorial pack, is a beacon of peace modeled as an upside-down Akan sword.

This edifice Houses the mortal remains of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his wife Fathiah Nkrumah.

The building is dressed in Italian marble, the mausoleum is an architectural marvel and designed by Ghanaian architect called “Don Arthur”.

The entire edifice “Mausoleum” is surrounded by water which is a symbol of life. It presence conveys a sense of immortality for the name Nkrumah.

It shows that in death he lives on it, the hearts and minds of generations here and generations to come.And the Star at the top represents the blacks and unity among them.
