PELANGIO MINING DENIES INVOLVEMENT IN GALAMSEY, CONDEMNS FALSE REPORTS
Pelangio Mining Company, operating in the Adansi Asokwa District of the Ashanti Region under its subsidiary Cherebroso Mining Ghana, has strongly refuted recent media reports accusing the company of facilitating illegal mining (galamsey) activities.
A report published by Swiftnews3.com alleged that Pelangio Mining has been leasing portions of its legally acquired concession to illegal small-scale miners in exchange for substantial payments ranging from GHS 1 million to GHS 2 million. The report further claimed that these activities have led to environmental degradation, including the pollution of the Jimi River.
However, in a firm response, the management of Pelangio Mining Company has condemned the allegations as entirely false and malicious, stating categorically that at no point has the company leased or transferred any part of its mining concession to galamsey operators.
“We have never offered our mining lease for galamsey activities,” the company emphasized. “These claims are unfounded, and we urge the Minerals Commission to disregard such misleading reports, which only serve to tarnish our reputation.”
Pelangio Mining also called on the Minerals Commission and other relevant authorities to investigate and disband these false claims, stressing that such accusations are being peddled by individuals or groups with ulterior motives.
According to the company, the illegal miners operating in the vicinity are doing so at their own peril and without any consent or collaboration from the company. Pelangio Mining maintains that it is fully compliant with Ghana’s mining laws and remains committed to responsible and sustainable mining practices.
“These illegal activities, if occurring, are not sanctioned by our company, and we have not granted access or authority to any individual or group to operate within our legally acquired mining lease,” the statement said.
Pelangio Mining has urged the public to disregard the misinformation and reaffirmed its dedication to environmental stewardship, legal compliance, and cooperation with regulatory authorities.
The company also pledged its willingness to collaborate with the Minerals Commission and law enforcement agencies to ensure that any illegal mining activities near its concessions are properly investigated and curtailed.
This statement comes amidst growing concerns about the role of licensed mining companies in Ghana’s fight against illegal mining, with Pelangio Mining making it clear that it does not condone or engage in any form of galamsey.
