Atwima Nwabiagya South MP Joins MCE for Massive Clean-Up Exercise, Urges Community Support

 

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya, Wisdom Osei Boamah (popularly known as Okumkom), on Saturday led a massive clean-up exercise as part of the National Sanitation Campaign, which is observed during the first week of every month.

 

The exercise focused heavily on clearing weeds and desilting choked gutters in key areas across the municipality, including Mimu and its environs, significantly improving local sanitation and drainage.

A large, diverse crowd participated in the exercise, including, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Nwabiagya South, Hon. Shirley Kyei,Staff of the Municipal Assembly and decentralized departments, including the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO),Local property owners, traders, and residents.

Addressing the media after the exercise, MCE Osei Boamah reaffirmed the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to maintaining cleanliness across the municipality.

 

He assured residents that the local government would continue to provide the necessary support for the national sanitation campaign and urged the public to remain actively involved in future clean-up efforts.

“Good health is one of the greatest assets any individual or nation can possess,” Osei Boamah emphasized, calling on all Ghanaians to view environmental cleanliness as a shared responsibility rather than a chore left to the government.

Hon. Shirley Kyei expressed her profound gratitude to the staff of the Assembly and the over one thousand residents who turned out for the exercise.

 

The lawmaker stressed that for the initiative to be sustainable, continuous public education and sensitization are vital to ensure long-term behavioral change. She noted that public health and environmental sanitation cross political and social lines, meaning every citizen must play their part.

“The sanitation exercise is meant for everyone, irrespective of where you live. It is not just for the government or a selected group of people in the community,” Hon. Kyei stated, rallying the community to take ownership of their environment to prevent the outbreak of diseases.
