PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES RECEIVE SUPPORT ITEMS FROM AFIGYA KWABRE NORTH DISTRICT ASSEMBLY
The government of Ghana, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama is committed to support Persons with Disabilities towards growth and development since they play a vital role in decision-making process.
With this the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development of the Afigya Kwabre North District Assembly in the Ashanti region has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the livelihoods of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the district through the disbursement of essential items and equipment under the District Assembly’s Common Fund (DACF).
The initiative forms part of government’s social protection programmes aimed at economically empowering PWDs, reducing dependency and discouraging street begging by supporting beneficiaries to engage in sustainable income-generating activities.
At a short ceremony held to hand over the items, beneficiaries received chest freezers, industrial sewing machines, fufu pounding machines, hairdressing equipment, wheelchairs, cylinder and burner, clutches,as well as payment of medical bills.Some beneficiaries also received provisions such as charcoal, sugar,rice,indomie,etc to sell and some also received cash support to help boost their economic activities.
Addressing the ceremony,the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya Kwabre North, Hon Emmanuel Jackson Agumah urged the beneficiaries to put the items to proper and productive use to improve their standard of living. He emphasized that the support was intended to promote self-reliance and dignity among persons with disabilities.
He noted that the intervention forms part of government’s continued commitment to promoting inclusivity, social protection and economic empower for all vulnerable groups through the District Assembly Common Fund.
The District Coordinating Director,Mr Anthony Amatey Hadjor assured that the assembly would closely monitor the use of the distributed items to ensure that beneficiaries make effective and responsible use of the support provided.
Some of the beneficiaries expresses appreciation to government and the DCE for their kind gesture.
