Kwaku Abonee, popularly known as Osama and Chairman of the Small Scale Miners Association in the Amansie South District, has made a plea to the government to allocate some portion of the land that has been predominantly given to large scale miners to the small scale miners.

Speaking at a stakeholders meeting held at the Manso Adubea Church of Pentecost, Chairman Osama emphasized the importance of small scale miners in boosting the economy. He noted that while large scale miners often sell their products abroad, the country does not benefit as significantly as it could.

Chairman Osama proposed that the government allow small scale miners to work in collaboration with local chiefs, as this would help identify and eliminate any rogue operators in the industry. He also highlighted the need for proper measures to be put in place to regulate small scale mining activities.

One such measure, according to Chairman Osama, is the implementation of a system where individuals are required to register their small scale mining operations. This registration process would involve specifying the size of land being worked on, and ensuring that all pits are covered once mining activities are completed. Failure to comply with these regulations would result in the revocation of the individual’s mining license.

Chairman Osama stressed that these measures are crucial for rejuvenating the land and ensuring its sustainable use for future generations. He urged Dr. Bawumiah, the flagbearer of the incumbent NPP party, to fulfill the promises made to the small scale miners and not let them be mere political rhetoric.

Chairman Osama called for a collaborative effort between small scale miners, the government, and local authorities to ensure responsible and sustainable mining practices. By working together and implementing effective measures, the small scale mining sector can thrive while also benefiting the country’s economy.
