INCLUSION OF POLITICS IN OUR COCOA SECTOR MUST STOP – CONCERNED COCOA FARMERS

A group calling itself Ahafo Ano South West District Concerned Cocoa Farmers has called on its members, individuals, and the government to desist from the inclusion of too much politics in the cocoa Industry.

According to the group cocoa sector is bigger than partisan politics whereby emphasis must be placed to meet the needed recognition..

Speaking at a press conference, Edward Kwame Yeboah, National Best Cocoa Farmer and convener for the group said the sector largely serves as a reliable economic livelihood of millions of farmers and a significant contributor to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Mr.Kwame Yeboah employs government and all sundry to rise up against the inclusion of politics into the cocoa sector since it is the backbone of the economy, stating categorically that cocoa farmers support any political party that comes into power, and also exercise their franchise during elections but that thus does not mean politics should overshadow our work as farmers.

“Irrespective of the exchange of government cocoa sector will continue to play its role for Economic growth,We always support any government that comes to power with respect to any interventions ,our outfit is ever ready to support such a government”.He stressed.

On President John Dramani Mahama’s 70 per cent of the prevailing world market price for every Ghanaian cocoa farmer to receive as part of the produce promise, the convener reassures members to have confidence in the President’s announcement, indicating that the sweat of cocoa farmers deserves dignity and a fair reward.

Mr. Yeboah appeals to parliament to pass the Cocoa Farmers bill with the inclusion of cocoa welfare since cocoa farming is crucial and important for economic growth.
