IGP Elevates All Members of Otumfuo-Named Police Royal Ladies Unit

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted every member of the Police Royal Ladies – a special all-female unit of the Ghana Police Service named in honour of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II – to their next ranks.

The promotions follow two ceremonial guards of honour mounted by the unit in tribute to Otumfuo: the first at the National Police Headquarters on January 6, 2026, and the second during the first Akwasidae of the year at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Speaking at the Akwasidae ceremony, the IGP said the Royal Ladies’ appearance was a symbolic expression of the Police Service’s deep appreciation for Otumfuo’s historic visit to the Police Headquarters.

He noted that the unit was established in Otumfuo’s honour and that their participation marked a first-of-its-kind event at the Manhyia Palace, witnessed by members of the Police Management Board.

Mr Yohuno praised the officers for their dedication and professionalism, stating that they have consistently distinguished themselves and demonstrated readiness to serve the nation with excellence.

In recognition of their hard work and the historic nature of the honours rendered – both at the Police Headquarters and the Manhyia Palace – the Police Administration approved their promotion to the next ranks.

The move, he said, reflects the Service’s commitment to rewarding merit and celebrating exemplary service that brings pride to the Ghana Police Service and the nation.
