Hon. Dr. Nana Abroso Urges Youth to Prioritize Skills Training Over Galamsey

The Assembly Member for Prestea Himan Electoral Area, Hon Dr. Alex Yaw Baako, popularly known as Nana Abroso, has called on the youth to embrace vocational skills training as a sustainable path to financial independence. He emphasized that while small-scale mining (galamsey) contributes to the local economy, young people should not rely solely on it but should rather acquire practical skills that can secure their future.

Speaking at the third graduation ceremony of Josiah’s Creation at the Himan Community Center in the Western Region, Hon. Dr. Nana Abroso commended the graduates for their dedication to learning vocational skills, particularly in decoration and event planning. He urged them to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice by setting up their own businesses and training others in the community.

“As young people, acquiring skills in various trades is key to self-reliance. Galamsey may be a quick source of income, but it comes with uncertainties. Vocational training, on the other hand, provides stability and long-term benefits,” he stated.

To support their entrepreneurial journey, Hon. Dr. Nana Abroso donated four industrial machines to graduates who excelled in decoration skills training. He expressed hope that the beneficiaries would use the equipment effectively to establish their businesses and contribute to job creation in the area.

The graduation ceremony saw an impressive turnout of local leaders, trainers, families, and well-wishers who applauded the initiative and encouraged the youth to seize the opportunity to develop sustainable careers.

Hon. Dr. Nana Abroso reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment, pledging continued support for vocational training programs in the Prestea Himan Electoral Area.

The event concluded with an exhibition of the graduates’ work, showcasing their impressive creativity and craftsmanship in decoration and event planning.
