GHANA PRISONS SERVICE ALERTS PUBLIC OVER SOCIAL MEDIA SCAMMERS

The Ghana Prisons Service has issued a strong public warning over a growing number of fraudsters impersonating its officials on social media platforms.

In a statement signed by Head of Public Affairs Janet Asabea and dated May 4, 2026, the Service disclosed that some individuals are falsely using the identities of senior officers, including Director-General Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, to deceive unsuspecting members of the public for financial gain.

The Service stressed that it has not authorised any person to request money, gifts, or personal information on its behalf through unofficial means, especially on social media.

It further clarified that all recruitment exercises and official engagements are conducted strictly through approved and publicly announced procedures.

According to the statement, no payment is required at any stage of recruitment or for any official service offered by the Prisons Service.

The public has therefore been urged to remain vigilant, avoid dealing with suspicious persons, and refrain from sending money or sharing personal information with unverified individuals.

Citizens have also been encouraged to report suspected fraud cases to the nearest police station or through official Ghana Prisons Service communication channels.

The Service warned that it will not be responsible for losses arising from transactions with impostors and added that it is working closely with the Ghana Police Service to identify and prosecute those behind the scam.
