In a significant move to bolster food security and practical education, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie Central, Hon. Emmanuel Obeng Agyemang (popularly known as Pedro), has distributed fertilizers to 20 beneficiary schools across the district.

The initiative falls under the government’s “Feed Ghana” program, which aims to transform educational institutions into centers of both learning and agricultural production.

During the distribution ceremony held at the EC office with headteachers and school management teams present, Hon. Obeng Agyemang emphasized that the support is designed to create a sustainable cycle of nutrition and income within the schools.

The DCE highlighted three primary goals for the initiative: growing healthy food to support the School Feeding, generating small-scale income to meet internal school needs, and teaching students lifelong farming and management skills.

While providing the resources, Hon. Obeng Agyemang reminded the school authorities that the support comes with a high level of responsibility. He urged the management teams to act as prudent stewards of the items received.

“I urge you to use these fertilizers wisely. Follow the best agronomic practices, plan your planting schedules meticulously, and maintain accurate records of your yields,” the DCE noted.

He further advised schools to prioritize crops that are both suited to the local climate and capable of meeting the specific nutritional requirements of the pupils.

Transforming Farms into “Living Classrooms”

Beyond the harvest, the DCE challenged school coordinators to view these farms as academic assets.

He encouraged them to turn the school gardens into “living classrooms” where theory meets practice.

“Practical learning strengthens classroom theory,” he stated. “By involving students directly in the work, we build discipline and inspire a new generation of ‘agripreneurs’ who will see farming as a viable and professional business.”

The distribution is expected to significantly enhance the agricultural output of the participating schools for the current farming season, fostering a culture of self-reliance and innovation within the Amansie Central District.
