EOCO, Police Rescue 39 in Hohoe Raid Targeting Travel Fraud, Human Trafficking Syndicate

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has rescued 39 persons during an intelligence-led operation targeting a suspected travel fraud and human trafficking syndicate in Hohoe in the Volta Region.

The operation, conducted on Sunday, July 19, targeted two groups operating under the names “Model Q” and “Ignite”, which are suspected of luring unsuspecting individuals with false promises of overseas travel opportunities.

According to EOCO, all 39 persons rescued are currently in its custody.

Initial assessments indicate that 14 of those picked up are suspected to be connected to the scheme, while 25 are believed to be victims from Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali and Côte d’Ivoire.

During the operation, investigators recovered several items, including mobile phones, travel documents and identification cards believed to have been used in the commission of the alleged offences.

EOCO said the seized electronic devices will undergo forensic examination to extract further evidence.

The Office added that it is working closely with the relevant embassies and foreign authorities, particularly those in Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire, to facilitate the safe repatriation of individuals believed to be victims.

The anti-graft agency said the operation reflects its commitment to combating human trafficking, travel fraud and other forms of organised crime.
