Healthcare as a Right: Amansie Central Aligns with Free Primary Healthcare Vision via New CHPS Facility
In a major boost to local healthcare accessibility, the Amansie Central District Assembly has officially commissioned a fully furnished, ultra-modern Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in Fahiakobo.
The state-of-the-art facility is the first of its kind in the district, reaffirming the assembly’s commitment and the broader national vision to make quality healthcare accessible to all citizens, regardless of their geographical location.
Addressing the gathering at the colorful ceremony, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie Central, Hon. Emmanuel Obeng Agyemang, revealed that the project was made possible through a successful collaboration between the district assembly, development partners, and local stakeholders.
“The commissioning of this facility is a testament to our dedication to improving maternal and child health, preventive care, and emergency response at the grassroots level,” Hon. Obeng Agyemang stated.
The DCE emphasized that the Fahiakobo CHPS compound will serve as the primary point of contact for health services in the community. It is equipped to provide essential services, including,Antenatal care,Routine immunizations,Health education,
Treatment of minor ailments
By bringing these services directly to the doorstep of residents, the facility will drastically reduce the long travel distances previously required to access care, thereby saving lives and empowering families to live healthier lives.
Aligning with the National Healthcare Vision
Hon. Obeng Agyemang echoed the president’s vision of achieving free primary healthcare for all Ghanaians, noting that financial barriers should never stand between citizens and basic health services.
“Together, we are building a healthier, stronger, and more inclusive Ghana,” the DCE said, while expressing profound gratitude to the Minister of Local Government, chieftaincy and Rural Development, and the Ashanti Regional Minister for their unwavering support.
However, the DCE issued a strong charge regarding sustainability.”A commissioning is the beginning, not the end. A health facility only saves lives if it is used correctly and maintained well.”
To ensure longevity, the DCE promised that the District Assembly would provide continuous budgetary support for the maintenance of the facility, as health remains a top priority in the district’s Medium-Term Development Plan.
The DCE urged the District Health Directorate to deploy dedicated and competent staff to the facility, ensure a steady supply of essential medicines, and maintain regular supervision.
Turning his attention to the residents of Fahiakobo, Hon. Obeng Agyemang advised them to desist from self-medication and avoid visiting unqualified practitioners.Adding the community must Protect the facility from vandalism and theft, treat the medical staff with respect and love to keep them motivated.
The District Health Director, Oppong Ahmed Amprantwum, assured the Assembly and the DCE that the facility would be put to excellent use. He noted that the project aligns perfectly with Ghana Health Service’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) vision for 2030. He expressed the staff’s immense satisfaction with the new edifice and pledged their total dedication to serving Fahiakobo and its environs.
Expressing his gratitude, the Chief of Fahiakobo, Nana Nsiah Amofa, extended his profound appreciation to the DCE, the District Assembly, and the government for delivering such a beautiful edifice. He assured the assembly that the community would take full ownership and protect the facility.
In a closing gesture of partnership, Nana Nsiah Amofa declared that the doors of his palace remain wide open to provide land for any future developmental projects aimed at uplifting Fahiakobo.
Meanwhile, Malvin Norman Freezer, the Ashanti Regional Treasurer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), donated medicines to the facilities to support their service delivery.
