Wasaa Amenfi East MCE hands over 220KV Generator for Wassa Akropong Government Hospital

 

In a bid to improve electricity supply at Wassa Akropong government hospital in Wassa Amenfi East in the Western Region, the MCE, hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah, has handed over a brand new 220KV generator to the facility.

 

The generator will serve as an alternative to power supply incase of outages at the hospital, supporting healthcare services during emergencies, aligning with the MCE’s efforts to boost healthcare in the municipality.

In his brief remarks, Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah emphasized quality healthcare as his priority, assuring residents of continued support for the hospital and other key sectors in Wassa Amenfi East.

Recently, Wassa Akropong, the capital of Wassa Amenfi East, has been experiencing unreliable and erratic electricity supply, affecting residents, businesses, and public services.

 

The cause has been identified as faulty transformers and electricity equipment.

 

Notwithstanding, the municipal assembly, led by Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah, has engaged with regional and national authorities to press for better service delivery from ECG and has supported initiatives to expand grid access and reduce outages.

Additionally, the Municipal Chief Executive, Raymond Nana Ebbah has been embarking on installation and replacement of transformers in some areas to enhance electricity supply.

 

It’s against this background that Raymond Nana Ebbah reveals that Wassa Amenfi Paramount Chief and the hospital’s administrators contacted the assembly through him for assistance to get a stable power supply.

 

According to the MCE, the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital’s 100KV generator has been broken for decades, causing hospital staff to face electricity challenges whenever there’s a power outage.

Thanks to some individual’s contributions, the MCE has secured and handed over a brand new power plant for the facility on Monday, 11th May 2026.

 

Dr. Prince Asante, receiving the generator on behalf of the hospital, thanked the MCE for the timely intervention following their request, saying it will enhance operations.

 

He cited the recent erratic electricity supply as a major hindrance to quality healthcare in Wassa Akropong, stressing that staff were forced to transfer pregnant women in labor to other facilities because they couldn’t perform theater operations during power outages.

Dr. Prince Asante pledged to ensure maintenance of the newly acquired 220KV generator for longevity.

 

Nana Kwaku Pepra, the chief of Farmers, a suburb community of Wassa Akropong commended the MCE for his development efforts.

According to Nana Kwaku Pepra, Wassa Amenfi’s traditional leaders were spearheading efforts to resolve the Wassa Akropong government Hospital’s power woes.

 

The chief said they previously attempted to repair the broken 100KV generator through Tretrete Foundation, founded by the Paramount Chief of Wassa Amenfi, Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, but to no avail.

He emphasized that they will continue the repair work, with the 100KV generator serving as a backup to the newly acquired 220KV generator, ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
