Manhyia South MP Turns Himself In to EOCO After Arrest Warrant
Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has reported himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), a day after the High Court issued a warrant for his arrest.
The MP was accompanied by his lawyer, former Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta Akyea, who confirmed the development on Adom TV’s Badwam.
Mr Atta Akyea said his client’s decision to report himself to EOCO was the appropriate step and demonstrated his willingness to cooperate with the authorities.
“He is also a lawyer and knows the right thing to do. So turning himself in is to assist with whatever EOCO requires of him, but we would expect that due processes will be followed instead of him being treated like a common criminal,” he said.
The former lawmaker added that Mr Baffour Awuah was prepared to cooperate fully with EOCO officials as the investigation continues.
The MP’s appearance at the EOCO office follows a court order issued on Wednesday, September 30, after the anti-graft agency told the High Court that it had exhausted reasonable efforts to secure his voluntary attendance for questioning.
The court subsequently authorised EOCO to arrest the MP and also granted the agency permission to search for and seize documents considered relevant to the ongoing investigation.
The latest development comes about a week after an attempted arrest of Mr Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court premises on September 23 led to a confrontation between EOCO officers and some individuals at the scene.
EOCO has maintained that the attempted arrest was part of an ongoing investigation and followed invitations sent to the MP as far back as February 2026.
Mr Baffour Awuah, however, has challenged some aspects of EOCO’s account of events.
According to him, a representative of his former law firm appeared before EOCO investigators on three separate occasions and provided information requested by the agency, including a written statement.
Several Members of Parliament are also reported to have accompanied or joined Mr Baffour Awuah at the EOCO office in support of him.
Those reported to be present include Kofi Amankwah Manu, Subin MP Obiri Yeboah, and former Deputy Attorney-General Joseph Kpemka.
Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, has disclosed that the Manhyia South MP is being investigated over alleged unauthorised financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.
Dr Srem-Sai said the suspected offences being investigated include financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering.
The investigation by EOCO is ongoing, with the agency expected to examine the transactions and other relevant documents as part of its probe.
