GOVERNMENT TO BEGIN PAYMENT OF UNPAID TEACHERS’ ARREARS IN MAY

Government has assured members of the Coalition of Unpaid Teachers that their 17-month salary arrears will be settled, with payments scheduled to commence in May 2026 under a phased plan.

The assurance follows a protest by the teachers at the Ministry of Finance, where they presented a petition over prolonged delays in salary payments. The group had earlier submitted a similar petition to the Presidency, which was received by Dr Samuel Ayeh on behalf of government.

Addressing the aggrieved teachers, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko reaffirmed government’s commitment to resolving the issue, stating that processes had already been completed to facilitate the payments.

He explained that the arrears would be cleared in stages, with affected teachers receiving four months’ worth of salaries each month until the full amount is paid. According to him, payments will begin in May and continue in subsequent months until all outstanding arrears are settled.

The move is expected to bring relief to the affected teachers, many of whom have expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in receiving their salaries.
