GH¢15 SACHET WATER PRICE IS ONLY A CEILING, NOT STANDARD RATE-PRODUCERS CLARIFY

Sachet water producers have clarified that the recently announced GH¢15 price for a bag of sachet water is only a maximum retail limit and not a fixed price across the market.

According to Kwame Agyapong-Ntra, the price cap serves as a guideline in response to rising production costs influenced by global economic pressures.

Speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM, he explained that the surge in crude oil prices-largely linked to tensions in the Middle East-has significantly increased the cost of polymers used in sachet water production.

He noted that suppliers have declared force majeure, a situation that has further driven up input costs and compelled producers to adjust their pricing structures.

“The material we use is derived from petroleum, so when oil prices rise, production costs also increase. This informed the decision to set a maximum price of GH¢15,” he stated.

Mr. Agyapong-Ntra stressed that it is inaccurate to assume sachet water will be sold at GH¢15 everywhere, adding that prices are expected to vary depending on market conditions, operational costs, and supply dynamics.

He also indicated that the ongoing geopolitical tensions make it difficult to predict when prices will stabilize, noting that even if conditions improve, it will take time for costs to normalize.

Producers have therefore assured the public that retailers are not obligated to sell at the GH¢15 ceiling unless necessary, emphasizing that the price cap is intended to protect consumers while allowing flexibility within the market.
