Salaga South MP Calls for Order and Efficiency in Chief Justice Nominee Vetting

The Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed ibrahimah, has shared her views on the ongoing vetting of Chief Justice Nominee, Justice Paul Barffour Bonnie.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Ibrahimah commended the Speaker of Parliament for asserting his authority and upholding the laws of the House to maintain order during the process. She noted that there came a point when the committee had to decide what issues to focus on and what to set aside. According to her, she expected the Appointments Committee to proceed with the vetting of the nominee and address any remaining matters later, emphasizing that Parliament should not appear disorganized.

Hon. ibrahimah expressed concern over the time wasted during the vetting session, saying that after two hours, there was little progress to show. She stressed that time is a valuable resource that cannot be regained, and many members could have used that time productively. Her main concern, she said, was that parliamentary duties should be carried out efficiently and in their proper order.

She further urged members to adhere strictly to parliamentary rules. Referring to comments made by the Majority Leader on the committee, she highlighted that the privilege for members to make preliminary statements is not a right but a courtesy. Therefore, abusing that privilege could result in its withdrawal in future proceedings.

Hon. Ibrahimah expressed optimism that the committee would resume on time and conclude its work smoothly, adding that she looks forward to the confirmation of Justice Paul Barffour Bonnie and the formation of a renewed Supreme Court.
