A/R,Kumasi:PURC holds regional public hearing for 2025-2030 multi year tarriff review.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has held its regional public hearing on the proposed Multi Year Tarriff Order(MYTO) for 2025-2030 in the Ashanti region.

The event forms part of the commission’s ongoing nationwide stakeholder engagements aimed at promoting transparency and accountability in the tarriff review process.

The event brought together key utility service providers including the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL),Volta River Authority (VRA) and Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCO).

These institutions justified the need for their proposed tarriff adjustments by presenting their finalized investment plans.

Speaking at the event,the Executive Secretary of PURC,Dr. Shafic Suleman emphazised the commission’s commitment to balancing the interests of consumers and utility providers.

Dr. Shafic Suleman stated that the engagement is not to increase or reduce tarriffs but to listen to the concerns of consumers and ensure fairness in the final decision. He also assured the public that PURC will carefully consider the final determination of feedback gathered per the 2025-2030 tarriff structure.

Also,the PRO for Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL),Ashanti region,Ebenezer Padi Narh explained that the pollution of water bodies significantly increases electricity consumption during treatment which comtributes to operational debt.

The Director of Communications at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), William Boateng stated that the customers must understand that the increment is to help ECG sustain operations and continue to deliver reliable power.
