STUDENTS TRANSFORM KUMASI INTO LIVING MUSEUM FOR ASHANTIFEST 2026

Students in Kumasi are playing a central role in transforming the city into a vibrant “living museum” as part of the ongoing AshantiFest 2026 celebrations.
The initiative, supported by the Ashanti Kingdom, is aimed at promoting tourism, reviving local culture, and empowering young creatives across the region.

As part of the festival’s activities, students from institutions such as Prempeh College and Kumasi Anglican Senior High School have taken over major public spaces with bold artistic expressions. Notably, the Asokwa Interchange has been transformed with giant murals depicting rich Asante history, identity, and pride.

Beyond the street art displays, AshantiFest 2026 features a variety of cultural showcases, including traditional drumming and dancing, Adoa performances, and exhibitions of authentic Asante Kente and historical artifacts. These activities highlight the deep cultural heritage of the Asante people while engaging both residents and visitors.

A major highlight of the festival was the royal return of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II from South Africa, an event that significantly heightened the festival’s atmosphere and participation.
Observers note that the initiative is gaining global attention as it promotes African storytelling through art while reinforcing cultural pride.

The movement also challenges the notion that African creativity requires external validation, positioning local talent at the forefront of cultural expression.
