DOWNPOUR WRECKS PANTANG HOSPITAL ROOF – DIRECTOR WARNS OF IMPENDING DISASTER

The Medical Director of Pantang Hospital, Dr. Yennusom Maalug, has issued an urgent appeal for support following severe damage caused by a heavy downpour that ripped off sections of the facility’s roofing.

Speaking after the incident, the Director called on the Ministry of Health, as well as the Constituency Member of Parliament, District Chief Executive, NADMO, and philanthropists to intervene immediately to prevent further destruction.

According to him, the rainfall on the previous day caused extensive damage to critical parts of the hospital, leaving sections of the facility exposed and in disarray. Among the hardest hit areas are the female VIP ward, the generator set housing, and parts of the hospital’s southern wall, all of which have been severely affected.

He warned that failure to urgently repair the damage could lead to serious consequences, particularly in the event of a power outage. “If we are unable to fix the generator housing and there is a blackout, it will be difficult to restore power,” he stressed, adding that the situation is already affecting patient care and staff operations.

The Director further revealed that the incident has left many staff traumatized, especially those who were on duty when the damage occurred. “As I speak, some of the staff who were on duty last night are still shaken, and I personally could not sleep,” he lamented.

He specifically appealed to key stakeholders, including the Member of Parliament for Madina, Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu, the Regional Minister, and other authorities to step in with immediate assistance.

Meanwhile, the Pantang Electoral Area Unit Committee Chairman, Adeka Kwame Prosper, who also visited the scene, described the situation as alarming.

“I heard about the incident, but when I came to see it myself, it was in a horrible state,” he said. He emphasized that the condition of the hospital could discourage patients seeking treatment and negatively affect the morale of health workers.

He joined the call for urgent intervention, urging authorities to act swiftly to restore the facility and ensure safe conditions for both patients and staff.
