Return of Official Vehicle by Former COCOBOD CEO Sparks Fresh Audit Concerns

The return of an official vehicle previously assigned to former Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Joseph Boahen Aidoo, has reignited public and official scrutiny over unresolved audit queries and financial liabilities reportedly accumulated during his tenure.

Sources indicate that Aidoo handed over the vehicle to COCOBOD headquarters in Accra after reportedly being informed that the Bureau of National Investigations could be called upon to retrieve it.

The development has added another layer to ongoing questions surrounding financial management and activities during the previous administration of the cocoa regulator.

Reports suggest the vehicle had remained in Aidoo’s possession for approximately 14 months after he left office, prompting concerns among officials and observers about the circumstances of its retention and eventual return.

The matter comes amid heightened attention on former COCOBOD managers, who are reportedly facing increasing scrutiny over unresolved audit findings raised by the Ghana Audit Service.

Currently, the new Chief Executive, Randy Abbey, is conducting a comprehensive review of the institution’s financial status following the leadership transition. Sources indicate that the new administration inherited significant liabilities estimated at around GH¢32.9 billion.

In response to the audit concerns, portions of the findings have reportedly been forwarded to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for further investigations and possible legal action where necessary.

The move is aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and proper stewardship of public resources in the management of the cocoa industry.

COCOBOD remains one of Ghana’s most critical state institutions, responsible for regulating and promoting the cocoa sector-a major contributor to export earnings and rural livelihoods nationwide.

The unfolding developments are expected to continue attracting close public attention as investigations, audit reviews, and institutional assessments progress.
