Consider the cultivation of your own medicinal plants – Dr Ebenezer Agyemang to herbal practitioners

Dr Ebenezer Agyemang, a renowned herbal medicine practitioner and founder of Ebenage Herbal Production is alarmed at the heavy metal concentrates found in herbs sourced from mining areas.

Dr Ebenezer Agyemang stated that growth in the herbal industry may slow down if galamsey persists since some herbs and plants used as medicine are going extinct due to deforestation which is mainly caused by illegal miners.

“Due to the accumulation of heavy metals like mercury and others,the plants may be effective for consumption and medicinal purposes but will not be safe for consumption”,he said.

Dr Agyemang also stated that the rate at which contamination is on the rise, if nothing is done about it now,we may end up importing organic medicines free from contamination or may buy them at higher price.

Dr Agyemang pleaded with government to step up fights to halt illegal mining now else the future will not be bright for the nation.

He also urged herbal practitioners to consider the cultivation of their own medicinal plants as the country continues to lose forest cover due to galamsey.

Dr Ebenezer Agyemang made this statement during the 15th graduation ceremony of Say-Adsam Educational Complex.
