Amansie Central: Strategic Growth Overshadowed by Rising Security and Galamsey Threats

The Amansie Central District Assembly is making steady developmental strides across infrastructure, healthcare, and agriculture, even as it grapples with emerging security threats and illegal mining.

Delivering his sessional address during the First Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Sixth Assembly at Jacobu, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Emmanuel Obeng-Agyemang, reaffirmed leadership’s commitment to elevating public services despite rigid financial and structural bottlenecks.

The Assembly reported a steady start to its fiscal year, mobilizing GH¢8.43 million by April 30, 2026. This represents 18% of its ambitious GH¢46.85 million annual revenue target. Notably, Internally Generated Funds (IGF) accounted for over GH¢1.95 million of the total revenue accrued during this period.

On the human resource front, the Assembly’s current workforce stands at 113 personnel (89 males and 24 females), comprising 98 permanent staff and 15 casual laborers.

To curb youth unemployment, the Assembly has actively leveraged the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), successfully placing local youth into specialized modules, such as Community Protection Assistants, Fire Service Assistants, Ambulance Service Correspondents, and Various vocational skills training programs.

While describing the overall atmosphere of the district as generally stable, Hon. Obeng-Agyemang sounded an alarm over a spike in illegal mining (galamsey), the proliferation of unregistered firearms, and a rise in commercial sex work in specific enclaves.

The security vulnerabilities were thrown into sharp relief by a recent, violent confrontation between law enforcement and armed individuals at Bepotenten. The shootout tragically resulted in one civilian fatality, alongside injuries to both a police officer and another civilian.

To fortify law enforcement presence, the DCE announced that newly constructed police stations at Tweapease, Numereso, and Apitisu are fully completed and awaiting official commissioning.

Agriculture, Education, and Healthcare Milestones, He mentioned that Amansie Central remains a predominantly agrarian economy, with over 73% of its working population employed in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. To further stimulate the local economy, the Assembly’s “Nkoko Nketenkete” initiative distributed 8,184 birds to 332 local poultry farmers, to bolster household livelihoods.

In terms of education, the DCE said Robust infrastructure expansions are underway, with new classroom blocks and kindergarten facilities being built at Domeabra, Adoowa, Homase, Nkoduase, and Sesease. On Healthcare, Primary healthcare, maternal services, and emergency response capabilities received a major boost with the official commissioning of the newly constructed Fahiakobo CHPS compound.

On Social Protection the DCE enumerated that the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program continues to support 485 vulnerable households across 35 communities. Additionally, the Assembly has partnered with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to run aggressive advocacy campaigns against child labor and teenage pregnancy.

Adding on to Sanitation and Future Outlook, Hon. Obeng-Agyemang stated that the Sanitation management has been heavily intensified across major hubs including Jacobu, Tweapease, Mile 9, and Numereso through rigorous drain desilting, waste evacuation, and public health sensitization. Waste bins and sanitation gear have also been dispatched to local schools and communities.

He concluded that the Assembly remains resolute in prioritizing road infrastructure, healthcare, quality education, and environmental sustainability,” Hon. Obeng-Agyemang concluded, pledging that transparent and inclusive governance will guide the district’s path forward.
