Kwadwo Sheldon Slams SIM Re-Registration Exercise, Calls It Wasteful and Inefficient

Popular Ghanaian content creator Kwadwo Sheldon has strongly criticized the government over the ongoing SIM card re-registration exercise, describing it as redundant, costly, and poorly managed.

In a viral video circulating on social media, Sheldon questioned the necessity of the exercise, arguing that Ghanaians had already registered their SIM cards in 2021 using their Ghana Cards, making the current process an unnecessary repetition.

He also took aim at Sam George, pointing out what he described as contradictions in his position. According to Sheldon, the legislator had previously criticized aspects of the SIM registration process but is now overseeing its implementation.

The social commentator further raised concerns about the financial implications of the exercise, suggesting that it could amount to a waste of taxpayer money and potentially create opportunities for mismanagement.

Beyond cost concerns, Sheldon highlighted what he sees as deeper systemic challenges, including the lack of coordination among key state institutions such as the National Identification Authority (NIA) and the Passport Office. He argued that this disconnect has resulted in long queues, delays, and inconvenience for citizens.

The video also captured reactions from several Ghanaians, many of whom expressed frustration over having to leave their daily activities to queue for a process they believe should have been streamlined or handled digitally.

Despite his criticism, Sheldon acknowledged that many citizens are likely to comply with the directive out of fear of losing access to their mobile services. He, however, called for more efficient, technology-driven solutions to replace what he described as outdated and stressful manual processes.
