Government To Construct Major Roads In Amenfi Central Constituency: MP Joana Gyan Cudjoe Hints
The government of Ghana, under President John Dramani Mahama, has committed to initiating major road construction projects in the Amenfi Central Constituency, Western Region, as announced by the Ministry of Roads and Highways. According to Member of Parliament Joana Gyan Cudjoe, this development addresses long-standing issues of poor road infrastructure in the constituency, which has hindered commuters and economic activities for years.
The prioritized road projects include:
Wassa Asankragwa–Agona Amenfi–Sefwi Bekwai: A 53-kilometer stretch to be surfaced with bitumen for smoother and more durable transportation.
Akyekyere–Bonuama–Kwaaman: A 17.4-kilometer feeder road scheduled for upgrading
Anyinabrem–Bonuama: A 19.3-kilometer feeder road also set for upgrading.
Bawdie–Asankragwa: A 60-kilometer main stretch targeted for improvement.
In an interview with Lord Fm News, MP Joana Gyan Cudjoe expressed optimism about the transformative impact of these projects, emphasizing that improved roads will enhance economic opportunities, market access for farmers, and commuter safety. She commended President Mahama’s “resetting agenda” policy for prioritizing infrastructure development in the Western Region. These efforts align with the government’s broader $10 billion Big Push Infrastructure Programme, aimed at improving national connectivity and economic growth.
Additionally, Hon. Cudjoe highlighted her support for over 500 tertiary students in the constituency, providing financial assistance for data bundles and compiling a list for scholarships through the GETFund Secretariat for those seeking to study abroad. This reflects her commitment to both infrastructural and educational development in Amenfi Central.
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm, as it responds to long-standing community concerns about deplorable road conditions, which have previously led to protests and threats of election boycotts in the region. The projects are expected to significantly improve mobility and economic activity in Amenfi Central.
