John Dramani Mahama Sworn in as Ghana’s President for Second Term

Accra, January 7, 2025 — John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially assumed office as Ghana’s sixth President of the Fourth Republic. The swearing-in ceremony, presided over by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, took place at the Black Star Square in Accra.

This marks Mahama’s second term as President, having previously served from January 7, 2013, to January 6, 2017. His return to the presidency is historic, as he becomes the first president under the Fourth Republic to lose an election and reclaim the seat after two subsequent contests, securing a landslide victory.

The ceremony also witnessed the swearing-in of Ghana’s first female Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who took the oath of office alongside Mahama.

The event was attended by dignitaries from across the country and the world, celebrating a significant moment in Ghana’s democratic journey.
