Philippines to Open Embassy in Ghana Later This Year as Both Countries Deepen Trade Ties

Ghana and the Philippines have agreed to strengthen trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, including the organisation of business forums and the establishment of a chamber of commerce.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Philippines’ Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The two sides agreed to organise business forums in Ghana and the Philippines to create opportunities for businesses from both countries to explore trade and investment partnerships.

They also agreed to work towards establishing a chamber of commerce to further promote commercial relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, Minister Ablakwa commended the Philippine Government for its decision to open an embassy in Ghana later this year.

The planned embassy will be the first permanent Philippine diplomatic mission in Ghana and is expected to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ghana and the Philippines also agreed to share ideas and expertise on labour mobility agreements as part of efforts to deepen cooperation in the area of employment and the movement of skilled workers.

The discussions form part of ongoing efforts by both countries to strengthen their diplomatic and economic relations and create greater opportunities for their citizens and businesses.
