Ghana, Saint Kitts and Nevis Sign Labour Deal to Improve Conditions for Nurses
Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis have signed an additional bilateral labour agreement aimed at improving the conditions of service for Ghanaian nurses working in the Caribbean country.
Under the new agreement, Ghanaian nurses recruited to work in Saint Kitts and Nevis will be entitled to legally protected enhanced salaries, health insurance, rent allowances and end-of-service benefits.
The agreement also provides for other labour rights to ensure better working conditions for Ghanaian nurses who take up employment opportunities in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Honourable Dr Geoffrey Hanley, signed the agreement on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Speaking at the signing, the Foreign Affairs Minister commended Ghanaian professionals for their contribution to the country’s reputation internationally.
He noted that the expertise and professionalism of Ghanaian workers continue to attract demand from countries around the world.
The agreement forms part of Ghana’s efforts to pursue diplomatic engagements that create practical opportunities and benefits for its citizens.
Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis are expected to continue strengthening their bilateral relations through cooperation in areas that promote the interests of both countries.
