South Korean President Presents Ghana Cocoa Chocolate and Samsung Phone to Mahama

South Korean President Lee has presented Ghana-made chocolate and a Samsung smartphone to President John Dramani Mahama as part of gestures marking Mahama’s five-day official visit to South Korea, which began on Tuesday.

According to presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung, the chocolate—produced by South Korean confectionery company Lotte—was specially designed with Mahama’s name alongside the national flags of Ghana and South Korea. The gift was delivered to Mahama’s hotel during the visit.

The chocolate holds special significance because it is made with more than 80 percent Ghanaian cocoa, and it is also personally meaningful to President Lee, who once received the same product from a child during his hunger strike in September 2023, the spokesperson explained.

In addition, President Lee plans to present Mahama with Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra, which was released last month, as a way of showcasing South Korea’s technological advancement and industrial strength.

As part of the diplomatic gesture, a traditional folk painting illustrating naval training during the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910) has also been prepared to symbolize South Korea’s commitment to enhancing maritime security cooperation with Ghana.
