EC Declaration and Collation Delays
On December 9, 2024, the Electoral Commission (EC) declared John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the 2024 presidential elections despite missing results from nine constituencies due to delays caused by overwhelming crowds at collation centers.
EC Chairperson Jean Mensa confirmed that these delays did not affect the overall results, stating:
“Even if all the votes from the nine constituencies (947,000 votes) were added to the candidate who placed second, it would not change the outcome of the election.”
