FARMLAND DISPUTE TURNS DEADLY IN KRACHI-ONE KILLED, SEVERAL INJURED AS HOMES GO UP IN FLAMES

A violent clash over farmland in Krachi has left one person dead and six others injured, following an escalation of tensions between residents of Wuinja and Biposu.

The conflict reportedly began as a dispute over ownership of a piece of land claimed by both communities for farming purposes. Although traditional authorities had imposed a ban on farming activities on the land pending resolution, some individuals allegedly defied the directive and attempted to cultivate the land, triggering the violent confrontation.

The clash, which involved gunfire, resulted in one fatality and left six people with varying degrees of injuries. In addition to the casualties, several houses belonging to the Inum community were set ablaze, forcing residents to flee and leaving many displaced.

Medical authorities confirmed that the injured victims were taken to different health facilities for treatment. Two of the victims were referred to a higher-level medical facility, while two others were admitted to the Krachi Government Hospital. The remaining two received treatment at St. Luke’s Hospital.

District Chief Executive Martin Anato stated that security in the area has been intensified, with personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service deployed to restore calm.

He added that investigations are ongoing, with several individuals identified for questioning. However, no formal arrests had been made at the time of the report.
