Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah Champions STEM Education for Ghana’s Industrial Future

Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, delivered a keynote address at Academic City University, highlighting the critical role of STEM education in driving Ghana’s industrialization.

Speaking on the theme “Bridging the Gap: The Role of STEM Education in Industry,” he emphasized the need to move beyond theory-based learning by equipping students with practical skills in AI, robotics, biotechnology, and sustainable energy. He identified curriculum reform, industry-academia collaboration, and supportive government policies as key priorities for progress.

“Industrial transformation does not happen by accident. Faith without works is dead—we must act now,” he declared.

Afriyie-Ankrah also affirmed that a John Mahama-led government would prioritize hands-on learning, digital accessibility, and increased participation of women in STEM. He linked these initiatives to the ASPIRE 24 framework under the 24-hour economy model, aimed at fostering STEM-driven jobs and innovation opportunities.

He concluded by urging educators, industry leaders, and students to embrace technology and innovation, stressing the importance of collective action in securing Ghana’s economic future.
