AMERICAN-BASED GHANAIAN ENSTOOLED AS FIRST APAGYAHEMAA OF AKUAPEM LARTEH KUBEASE
Mrs. Matilda Ansah, a Ghanaian residing in the United States and a specialist at Greystone Psychiatric Hospital, was on Saturday, enstooled as the first-ever Apagyahemaa (Queen Mother of Development) of Akuapem Larteh Kubease in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
She was given the stool name Nana Afua Amanorwaa I during a grand traditional ceremony held at the Akuapem Larteh Kubease Palace. The colourful event was steeped in rich cultural tradition, as Nana Afua, dressed in solemn black cloth, was led to swear the oath of allegiance to the Chief of Akuapem Larteh Kubease, Nana Otu Acheampong Agyemfra VI, amidst the beating of traditional drums, including the “Fontonfrom.”
The enstoolment marks a historic milestone for the Akuapem Larteh Kubease community, being the first time a queen mother specifically for development has been appointed.
In his remarks, Nana Otu Acheampong Agyemfra VI urged the newly enstooled queen mother to uphold the customs and traditions of the land, to remain humble, respectful, honest, and truthful in her service to the people.
He reminded her of the exemplary leadership of past elders, encouraging her to emulate their dedication and wisdom to foster progress. “You are to be a unifier and a development-oriented leader who will help drive sustainable socio-economic growth in this community,” he stated.
In her acceptance speech, Nana Afua Amanorwaa I expressed gratitude to the chief and elders of the community for the honour bestowed upon her. She pledged to serve with diligence and integrity, focusing on the welfare of her people and development of the area. “I will remain committed to the oath I have sworn and work hard to uplift Akuapem Larteh Kubease,” she assured.
The ceremony attracted a large gathering of traditional leaders, community members, and invited guests, all of whom welcomed the new queen mother with joy and optimism for a brighter future.
