NINE MINERS TRAPPED AFTER PIT COLLAPSE AT KONONGO

Nine miners have been trapped following the collapse of a mining pit at Konongo in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality.

The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening while the miners were working underground when the pit suddenly caved in, blocking their exit route and trapping them beneath the debris.

Rescue teams, together with fellow miners, have since been working tirelessly at the scene in an effort to bring the trapped miners to safety.

Confirming the incident, the Municipal Director of National Disaster Management Organisation, Lanbon Joseph, disclosed that all nine miners are alive and safe.

Speaking to the media, he explained that officials have maintained constant communication with the trapped miners through radio contact and assured that no fatalities have been recorded so far.

According to him, the miners are currently surviving on water they carried into the pit while rescue operations continue above ground.

Mr. Lanbon Joseph appealed to residents and families of the trapped miners to remain calm as emergency responders work around the clock to safely rescue the victims.

He further noted that personnel from the National Ambulance Service are on standby to provide immediate medical attention once the miners are brought out.

Rescue efforts are still ongoing.
