In a significant boost to social intervention and economic empowerment, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie Central, Hon. Emmanuel Obeng Agyemang, has supervised the distribution of essential items and financial support to the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) community.
The ceremony, held yesterday at the forecourt of the District Assembly, marks a continuation of an initiative launched in 2025 aimed at providing sustainable livelihoods for the vulnerable.
During the event, Hon. Obeng Agyemang highlighted the unprecedented scale of this year’s support. The number of beneficiaries saw a sharp increase rising from fewer than 20 in previous cycles to 41 individuals this year.
A total of GH¢ 244,500 was disbursed from the Disability Fund, a figure the DCE noted is the highest the district has ever recorded for this purpose. He attributed this milestone to the government’s commitment to increasing inflows into the Disability Fund to ensure broader coverage and more impactful support.
The items distributed were not randomized; rather, they were procured based on the specific requests of the local Disabled Association members to ensure they met their actual economic needs. The items included, are deep freezers and Refrigerators for cold-store businesses,Industrial Sewing Machines for fashion designers,Tricycles to aid mobility and logistics, and direct cash grants to help entrepreneurs and caregivers revitalize small-scale businesses.
Beyond Physical Items, Health and Welfare
The intervention extended beyond equipment. Recognizing the high cost of specialized care, the 2025 Disability Fund also covered,Full payment of medical bills and support for complex surgeries,Acquisition of prosthetics to improve mobility and quality of life, and Direct support for caregivers, acknowledging their vital role in the community.
Hon. Obeng Agyemang emphasized that these actions are a direct reflection of the government’s “Reset Agenda,” designed to ensure that no citizen is left behind in the nation’s developmental journey.
“The District has never seen such a substantial amount dedicated to our brothers and sisters in the disabled community,” the DCE stated. “We are delivering on our promises to the Ghanaian people. We only ask for your continued support, cooperation, and prayers as we work together to build the Ghana we all want.”
The event concluded with a call for the beneficiaries to maintain the items provided, ensuring they serve their intended purpose of creating financial independence and dignity.
Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt profound gratitude to the government and the DCE for his generous gesture to help support the disability communities in Amansie Central District.
