37 Nsawam Prison Inmates Sit for Teacher Licensure Examination
Thirty-seven inmates at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison have taken the Teacher Licensure Examination as part of efforts to prepare them for life and employment opportunities after their release.
The inmates, who have successfully completed their degree programmes, sat for the examination at the prison facility on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The examination was conducted under strict supervision by two external invigilators, with officers of the Ghana Prisons Service providing the necessary support.
The initiative forms part of the Ghana Prisons Service’s wider efforts to use education as an important tool in the reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.
Through access to education and professional qualifications, inmates are provided with opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills that can improve their chances of securing meaningful employment after serving their sentences.
The programme is also intended to help them build responsible and productive lives when they return to their families and communities.
The participation of the 37 inmates in the Teacher Licensure Examination marks an important stage in their rehabilitation process.
It also demonstrates the efforts being made to provide inmates with opportunities to transform their lives through education and prepare them to make positive contributions to society after their release.
The Ghana Prisons Service continues to promote education and skills development as key parts of its rehabilitation programmes.
The Service says such programmes are aimed at helping inmates develop the skills and qualifications needed for successful reintegration into their communities while also contributing to efforts to reduce reoffending.
