Otumfour Osei Tutu II Warns Chiefs: Stop Dragging Manhyia Palace into Daddy Lumba’s Funeral Controversy

Kumasi – December 12, 2025 – The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has issued a strong warning to his sub-chiefs to immediately stop invoking the name of the Manhyia Palace or the Golden Stool in matters that do not concern him, particularly the ongoing disputes surrounding the burial and funeral arrangements of highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.

Addressing the Kumasi Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace, Otumfuo expressed serious displeasure over attempts by some chiefs to link him to the controversy. He stated that the matter had never been formally brought before him and that he had only heard rumours.

“What relevance do Daddy Lumba’s family matters hold for me that people are associating my name with it?” Otumfuo questioned.

He clarified that Daddy Lumba hails from the Nsuta Traditional Area and therefore any traditional issues concerning his family must be handled solely by the Nsuta Traditional Council.

The Asantehene described the act of dragging Manhyia into the dispute as completely inappropriate and ordered an immediate end to it. He warned that any chief found using his name or that of the Golden Stool in matters outside his jurisdiction would face severe consequences.

Otumfuo also admonished chiefs who delay rulings on traditional cases to stop shifting blame to Manhyia and to handle their responsibilities with urgency and fairness.

The stern directive has been welcomed by many as a move to protect the sanctity and neutrality of the Golden Stool amid rising public controversies involving high-profile funerals in Asanteman.
