Hon. Hajia Zuwera Leads Gender Committee Engagement with ACEPA and CPC, Reaffirms Commitment to Gender Equality

On the first day of the resumption of Parliament, the Member of Parliament for Salaga-South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Ibrahimah, called on the Minister of Energy to follow up on persistent electricity challenges affecting communities within her constituency.

Later in the day, she chaired a Gender Committee engagement with the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) and the Canadian Parliamentary Centre (CPC), demonstrating her strong leadership and continued dedication to advancing gender equality in Ghana.

The meeting focused on evaluating the CPC-sponsored program, which has significantly contributed to Ghana’s progress in promoting gender equality earning the nation recognition as one of the best performers in West Africa.

Key Highlights of the Engagement

Collaboration Opportunities: Participants explored ways to deepen cooperation between CPC/ACEPA and Ghana’s Parliament to further advance gender mainstreaming.

Gender Advocacy: Discussions centered on strategies to elevate gender advocacy to new heights within parliamentary and national development frameworks.

Ghana’s Experience: The country’s achievements in implementing gender equity initiatives were shared, providing a model of best practices for other nations in the subregion.

Present at the meeting were Mourad Gradia, Senior Programme Leader for Social and Economic Development Bureau at Global Affairs Canada; Ivo Balinov, from the Canadian Parliamentary Centre; and Yaa Nkansah Asamoah-Aning, International Assistance Officer at the Canadian High Commission in Ghana.

As Chairperson of the engagement, Hon. Hajia Zuwera’s leadership underscored her unwavering commitment to empowering women and strengthening gender equality within Ghana’s legislative and policy structures.

She also fulfilled her parliamentary duties by attending the roll call in the chamber, in accordance with Standing Order 14.

The continued partnership with CPC and ACEPA is expected to further enhance Parliament’s role in advancing inclusive governance, social justice, and gender equity in Ghana.
