Edward Kwabena Asare from Manso Agroyesum in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region was recently named the Overall District Best Farmer for 2024. As a seasoned farmer with years of experience under his belt, he has a message for the youth of today – take farming seriously, as it pays off in the end.

In a statement following his victory, Asare commended all the farmers in the district for their hard work and dedication. He noted that farming is not an easy task, and many people view it as a punishment rather than a rewarding profession. Asare urged the youth to change this mindset and see farming as a profitable venture that can provide a sustainable livelihood.

He also highlighted the challenges faced by farmers in rural areas, such as difficulties in accessing loans and markets for their products. Asare called on the government to implement measures to support smallholder farmers and ensure that their hard work does not go to waste.

Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of not letting factors like climate change and illegal mining (galamsey) deter farmers from their work. Asare stressed that farming is a noble calling that should be embraced and nurtured, despite external challenges.

Regarding galamsey, Asare pointed out that it is not only a threat to certain regions but a nationwide issue that impacts agricultural lands. He encouraged people with available land to start farming on it, as it can lead to significant benefits in the long run.

Asare urged the youth to consider farming as a viable career option and to invest their time and effort in agricultural activities. He emphasized the need for government support and proactive measures to ensure the success of the farming industry in Ghana.
