Deputy Health Minister Represents Ghana at International Lassa Fever Conference in Abidjan

Deputy Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has represented the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, at the 2nd International Conference on Lassa Fever (LIC 2025) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The conference, organized by the West African Health Organisation (WAHO) in partnership with regional and international health institutions, is focused on strengthening cooperation to combat Lassa fever and other emerging infectious diseases.

Held under the theme “Beyond Borders: Strengthening Regional Cooperation to Combat Lassa Fever and Emerging Infectious Diseases,” the event highlights the importance of collaboration in addressing health challenges across the sub-region.

Key discussions include promoting vaccine and diagnostic research, as well as developing a sustainable roadmap for responding to emerging diseases.

Lassa fever, a viral disease transmitted mainly by rodents in West Africa, can be managed with early treatment using antiviral drugs and supportive care. Experts also stress the need for improved hygiene practices and protection against rodents and infected fluids to prevent its spread.
