Ashanti Regional Chairman of NDC Appeals to President John Dramani to Launch Investigation into the Nyinahin Brutality

Following the Nyinahin shooting brutality between military personnel and some citizens in the communities—which occurred on Tuesday, causing one Akwasi Lala a.k.a. Kushive’s death and others injured in the Ashanti Region of Ghana

The incident, which took many by surprise and brought sadness into the lives of persons in the community, prompted the Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman, Nana Akwasi Andrew, during his visit tour to the Nyinahin Police Station, Chiefs’ Palace, and the deceased’s family, to make a passionate appeal to the President of the Republic of Ghana to launch an investigation team to probe into the matter.

He described the act as unlawful and insisted it must be treated fairly with justice, alongside any other shooting incidents that have occurred in the Ashanti Region which have been left dormant.

“Listening to the police, the chief, and the deceased’s family, the rationale to which the military personnel shot the deceased and the other two victims is untrue. It was not indeed a military uniform but rather a camouflage attire,” he lamented.

Nana Akwasi urged community members to have patience as the Executive of the NDC in the Ashanti Region massively appeals to the President to immediately take action into the matter to ensure calmness.

“I am happy you did not take the law into your own hands by attacking any of the personnel. Your act of decency has truly proven that Lala A.K. Kushive is innocent, and justice must prevail to serve as a deterrent to all security personnel whose job is to protect society and the people, not raise guns on them, especially the innocent ones,” he added.

He assured that if the matter is looked into, it will be treated fairly and justice will prevail.

The Chairman and his entourage, led by the acting Secretary of the party, Baah Acheampong, donated an amount of money to the deceased’s family and the injured victims and assured them of continuous support.

The Chief of Nyinahin, Nana Amapene Boateng II, said his outfit would appreciate it greatly if the government probes into the matter to ensure justice prevails since such acts are becoming predominant in the Ashanti Region.

According to him, military personnel are to protect the citizens, not shoot innocent civilians without a second thought.

He therefore commended the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC and his entourage for their visit to enquire much from him and the police, saying this will support in bringing a fair judgment to the matter.

“The deceased is one of my boys who supported me in diverse ways anytime I knocked at his door. So I was surprised when his friends came to announce the sudden incident. In fact, I am short of words. An incident such as this should not occur again after government intervention,” he quoted.
