Student Left Hostel After Phone Call Before Being Found Dead at Beach – Police Report

New details from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) indicate that the Level 200 student found dead at Hutchland Beach near Duakor may have left her hostel shortly after receiving a phone call.

The deceased, identified as Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, was discovered on the shoreline on Saturday, June 13, 2026, after residents reported a body washed ashore.

According to the UCC District Police Commander, ASP Abdul Abubakar, the student’s roommate last saw her around 7:00 p.m., two days before the body was found. The roommate told police that the deceased received a phone call, dressed casually, and left their shared room. She never returned.

Concern grew among colleagues, prompting efforts to locate her. The body was found the following morning by local residents, who alerted the police. Officers at the scene noted no visible injuries during their initial examination. The remains have since been transferred to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation.

Identification was made with the help of her roommate and later confirmed by family members at the mortuary.
