Ghanaian ordinary passport holders can travel to at least 41 countries across Africa, the Caribbean and other parts of the world without obtaining a visa before travelling, according to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Under the various visa-waiver arrangements, Ghanaian citizens are permitted to enter the listed countries without securing a visa in advance. However, the duration of stay permitted differs from one country to another.
While most of the countries allow Ghanaian travellers to stay for up to 90 days, Grenada, Maldives and Zambia have shorter permitted periods of 30 days.
Among the non-ECOWAS countries included in the arrangements are Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, The Bahamas, Dominica, Eswatini, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Morocco, Maldives, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Singapore, São Tomé and Príncipe, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
For travellers heading to Morocco, however, there is an additional requirement. Ghanaian citizens must obtain a free Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) online before travelling.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is also included in the information provided, although its arrangement is different from a conventional visa-free entry. Ghanaian travellers are required to obtain a visa from the UAE Embassy in Accra and pay the applicable visa fee.
ECOWAS Travel
Ghanaian passport holders also enjoy visa-free entry into other member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) under the regional bloc’s free movement arrangements.
The ECOWAS countries include Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Cabo Verde, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.
Under the arrangement, Ghanaian travellers can generally remain in these ECOWAS member countries for up to 90 days.
