15,000 jobs created by the Ministry of Communication and Digitalization

The Ministry of Communication and Digitalization has created jobs for an approximation of 15,000 individuals. The eTransform project that the World Bank financed through the Ministry trained more than 39,141 persons.

 

Three strategic tech hubs, which are the Ghana Tech Lab, the Kumasi Business Incubator at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the Ghana Innovation Hub successfully got launched under the Project.

 

These hubs are to seed innovations, nurture startups, to foster highly skilled digital human capital, all with the aim of generating profit, and to address the needs of society.

Out of the total 39,141 participants, the representation of males were 18,914 and that of the females, 20,227, showing a margin of 1,313 more females.

 

Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said that the beneficiaries were equipped with diverse skills in the digital sector; in robotics, graphic design, social media management, videography, virtual reality, mobile app development, accounting, creative writng, 3D printing, gaming, animation, photography, programming, sound engineering, web development as well as in artificial intelligence.

 

This project is aimed at aiding in the attainment of Ghana’s broader effort to maximize the use of technology for the improvement of the socio-economy. Again, it seeks to ensure that Ghana remains at the forefront of economic growth and digital innovation in the African diaspora.

Both the Ghana Innovation Hub and the Ghana Tech Lab have contributed to the creation of 5,799 direct jobs, and indirectly, over 10,000 jobs. Pertaining to the direct jobs, 3,043 females and 2,756 males got jobs.

 

A cornerstone of the Digital Ghana Agenda, the Project supports the digitization of services in applicable and priority sectors where Information Communication and Technology can be utilized in the education sector, the health sector, and to complete e-key applications.

 

The implementation of the eTransform project started in the January of 2015.
