Stephen Appiah, the Electoral Area Coordinator for Manso Tontokrom in the Amansie South District, has made a passionate appeal to the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to prioritize community mining initiatives for the area if he becomes the next president. His appeal was made during a rally organized to highlight the achievements of the NPP government and mobilize support ahead of the upcoming general elections.

Speaking to a gathering of party members and residents, Mr. Appiah emphasized the economic importance of community mining to the livelihoods of the people of Manso Tontokrom. He expressed hope that Dr. Bawumia, who previously played a pivotal role in opening community mining operations in other constituencies during his tenure as Vice President, would extend similar opportunities to the people of Tontokrom.

“We have a portion of land that provides food on our tables,” Mr. Appiah stated. “I know he has already won the elections, so when he becomes president, he should do whatever it takes to help us also benefit from community mining.”

Mr. Appiah also commended the NPP government for its ongoing efforts in transforming the region through various development projects. He used the rally as an opportunity to educate the electorate on the need to maintain peace during the elections.

“We organized this rally not just to campaign but also to remind the people of Manso Tontokrom of the progress the NPP government is making,” he said. “We are also educating everyone on the importance of voting calmly and leaving the polling station in peace because, as Ghanaians, we are one people.”

Community mining has become a significant source of income for many rural communities in Ghana, providing employment and boosting local economies. However, not all areas have benefitted equally, leading to calls from various leaders for more equitable distribution of mining rights.

As the 2024 general elections approach, the NPP’s grassroots organizers, like Mr. Appiah, are working hard to consolidate support in strongholds and marginal areas. The rally in Tontokrom reflects the party’s strategy to address local concerns while fostering national unity and peace during the electoral process.
