Sompahene of Ahafo Nkaseim has built a Health Centre for his mining site workers and communities surroundings the site.

Chief Executive Officer of Sakyi Komta Mining at Nkaseim Krapoo and doubles as Abusuapanin of Ahafo Akwasiase, Nana Yaw Sarpong is doing a tremendous and marvellous things at his mining site that needs accolades and attention.

The Nkasaim mining site is still operational due to the incessant efforts of Nana Yaw Sarpong, ( Sompahene of Nkasaim), Brother Emmanuel Mensah Jnr. ( Chairman of the site) and Kofi Anane Tompoo ( Vice Chairman of the site). The trio inherited a devasted mining site that was previously managed by a White man.

The challenge then was how to resuscitate the site within the shortest possible time. There was therefore the need to craft a succinct vision to achieve that. ” To create a sustainable employment for the community, and to also assist the community in it’s developments”.

In February 2021, financial resources were mobilized and we assiduously commenced business.

The challenge still persisted yet we put up effort to alleviate them. In the third month the situation started smoothing up.

There began an inflow of sponsors, chillers, loko boys, puller boys, compressor operators, ghetto owners, electricians and rewinders, okada riders and food vendors to the site. Those who were once unemployed were working for their daily bread. Within a very short period, criminal activities plummeted and teenage pregnancy reduced to almost zero.

Investors in machines and plants that crush the quarts also spread all over the place creating employment to a great number of our youth.

In a nutshell, a lot of people have gained the opportunity to generate incomes for their survival. A parallel project has also been established alongside the mining to improve the environmental situation. Eleven acres of Para Robber has been cultivated to cover up the land degraded by our predecessors. More acres are to be cultivated in 2024.

And a lot has been also achieved on our social cooperate responsibilities, and they are,
The Nkasaim Health Centre emergency block has gone under rehabilitation and improved under our auspices, beds were also provided.

Again Nana Agyei Danso Senior High Technical School has been given cash and kind assistant too has been extended to them.

Methodist School canteen received iron sheets, And Cornelia international school also received football and jersey.

Nkasaim Girls Senior High school received football and jersey. The Krapoo School also received mower for weeding their compound.

Whilst every breaking day, some old people’s in our vicinity received to sort themselves out..

Aside all these achievements they have also performed well at the mining site by making the following provisions for people working and visiting the place by, making a place of convenience for them to avoid open defecations. And also providing hygienic borehole to get free water to run their daily activities because it is a saying that water is life, again free access of bathroom and showers. And lastly free access of reaching someone at the site ( information centre).

Lastly the management of the site and the community has done a marvellous thing by building and furnished a clinic situated at Nkasaim Krapoo mining site which will serve over 5000 workers and then the communities surrounded by the mining site, that will provide them with free medical care and access of first aid, that they unveiled it on Wednesday 27th of December 2023 at the mining premises.

Honourable Collins Dauda, member of parliament for Ahafo Region who in his statement says, is not easy to open a health centre for free and he applause Sompahene for his kind gesture, for doing such huge thing for his people. And if anything bordering them concerning the mining Sompahene and his team shouldn’t hesitate to contact him, because he knows much more about the mining sector.

Hon. Collins Dauda also appeals to the Doctor who represent (Dr. Ankamah) that, they should bring more nurses to come and attends to his people

Doctor Ankamah also responded that he appreciates what Nana has done, because if your in place like the mining site and if emergency occurs, it very difficult to attend to that particular person so they would try everything possible to help bring in every assistance they will need.
