Nii Boi Electoral Area Unit Committee Urges Women to Participate in Breast Cancer Screening

The Unit Committee Chairman for the Nii Boi Electoral Area, James Attikpo, has called on women in the area to take breast cancer screening seriously to safeguard their health.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Attikpo explained that the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Okaikwei North Constituency, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, introduced the “Obaanaa Breast Cancer Awareness and Health Screening” initiative to support women’s health. He noted that the program is not limited to her constituency alone but is open to all Ghanaian women. The initiative is being organized in collaboration with Hon. Nii Otuo.

According to Mr. Attikpo, the target is to reach about 3,000 women, and community volunteers have begun visiting homes to encourage participation in the ongoing screening exercise. He emphasized that although the program began in January, the MP continues to sustain it — not just because October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but because of her consistent commitment to improving health care access.

He further mentioned that the MP had earlier supported residents with Ghana Card registration and National Health Insurance renewal, and is now extending her efforts to breast cancer screening. He therefore urged all women in the constituency to take part in the screening, describing it as “very necessary and important.”

Meanwhile, Roberta Nyamekye, the Women’s Executive for the Lapaz Market, also shared her appreciation for the initiative. She said the free health screening has been very beneficial, noting that she was able to check her blood pressure, which turned out normal.

She encouraged her fellow market women to participate in large numbers, emphasizing that there is “nothing better than having an MP who prioritizes the health of her people.”

Ms. Nyamekye expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, Chairman Tuga, community executives, as well as the nurses and doctors who were present to assist during the screening exercise.
