NDC Odotobri Parliamentary Candidate Warns Party Members Against Destroying Government Properties
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Odotobri Constituency in the 2024 elections, Emmanuel Obeng Agyemang, has urged members of his party to refrain from damaging government properties. He cautioned that such actions could have long-term negative effects on the party’s image and the development of the nation.
In a statement, Mr. Obeng Agyemang stressed that destroying government property would not only hurt the country but also place an unnecessary burden on the incoming administration led by President-elect John Dramani Mahama. He pointed out that funds that could be used for developmental projects would instead be diverted to repair the damages.
“Destroying government properties will cause more harm than good,” he said. “When President-elect John Dramani Mahama assumes office on January 7, 2025, his administration will need to repair the damaged properties. These funds could have been used for developmental projects that will benefit the entire nation.”
Mr. Obeng Agyemang also raised concerns about how such acts could be exploited by individuals outside the NDC to tarnish the party’s reputation. He noted that non-NDC members could disguise themselves and engage in unlawful activities, leaving the party to take the blame. This, he said, could slow down the developmental agenda of the new government and create unnecessary tension.
“It is important to note that if we allow these acts to continue, others who are not even members of the NDC may infiltrate and commit acts of vandalism, only for the blame to fall on us as a party,” he explained. “This will hinder the progress of the development projects that the president-elect is eager to implement for the good of the nation.”
He encouraged party members to act responsibly and protect public properties. He advised them to report anyone caught engaging in such activities to the nearest police station rather than taking the law into their own hands.
“If you see anyone taking government property illegally or damaging it, report the person to the police. Allow the law to take its course. Do not engage in any unlawful acts that could lead to riots or disturbances,” he said.
Mr. Obeng Agyemang took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Ghanaians for their overwhelming support during the elections. He attributed the party’s success to the collective efforts of both NDC members and other citizens who believed in the party’s vision for the country.
“This election, we won massively because it was not only NDC members who voted for us. I want to thank Ghanaians for their confidence in us. Let us work hard to retain power and support the president-elect in delivering on his promises to transform the country,” he added.
The Odotobri parliamentary candidate reiterated the need for unity and discipline among party members as they prepare for the next phase of governance. He urged all NDC supporters to prioritize the country’s development over any personal or partisan interests, ensuring that the incoming administration starts on a positive and productive note.
